Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking a Host / Reporter.

About the Position:

The CPR News Host / Reporter will connect with local listeners, delivering newscasts, segues and local features. You will cover Colorado in ways that reflect and represent the state’s diversity, including a focus on underrepresented communities and regions. This position will host Sunday’s Weekend Edition podcast live from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. (with scheduled work hours until 1 p.m.) and will also host or co-host a daily news podcast Monday through Thursday with the hours of roughly 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in conjunction with an editor and producer. In this role, you will also act as a backup for other news magazine host shifts as needed. The new hire is expected to reside in the Denver Metro upon starting - this is not a remote position. This position’s required schedule is Sunday through Thursday — from early morning to mid afternoon on Sunday and regular office hours on Monday through Thursday and will mostly work in-facility at our offices in Downtown Denver.

About You:

You are a responsive, adaptable and reliable host, ignited by curiosity and interested in daily news. You have a fast metabolism for identifying stories that reflect what’s happening, as well as a desire to create enterprise stories that can get conversations going about important Colorado issues. You’re excited about hosting a daily podcast as well as Weekend Edition because you have a variety of interests and see yourself as a lifelong learner. You’re committed to diversity and inclusivity in sourcing and story choice and are able to develop a wide variety of sources from diverse communities. You’re a creative storyteller. You’re also a collaborator who likes to work with colleagues in the newsroom on projects to better your own work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience hosting or in roles where you have used your voice as the main medium to communicate with an audience. This could involve working on a journalistic podcast, working for a daily publication in a newsroom, or working for other relevant broadcasts.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of ethical, fair and accurate reporting.
  • Experience editing and mixing audio (preferably using Adobe Audition) and an ability to run a studio shift solo without the support of a board operator.
  • A demonstrated ability to generate great story ideas that speak to varied, real, human experiences.
  • A demonstrated ability to earn trust and report on issues impacting underserved communities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. This should include a strong ability to communicate  in a conversational style when hosting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, meet deadlines, switch between tasks as necessary and work in a fast-paced, digital environment.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required as this role needs access to reliable transportation to respond with urgency to news events. Newsroom vehicles will sometimes be available for your use.
  • Candidates with strong Spanish language skills are preferred.
  • Ability to work a non-standard schedule; Sunday  5:00 am - 1 p.m.; Monday through Thursday: roughly 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Education Equivalency:

  • High School or GED degree required. Relevant Associates or Bachelors degree may replace some of the years of experience required.

At Colorado Public Radio, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, equitable and authentic workplace.
