National Electric Week events across the Front Range and in Glenwood Springs in the comings days.

Electric car advocates say technology has changed dramatically over the last five years. Cars have larger batteries that allow for longer trips. There are also more charging stations.

“We’ve seen an explosion of investment in charging stations," said Will Toor, with the nonprofit Southwest Energy Efficiency Project. "EVgo now has a network of fast chargers along the Front Range from Fort Collins all the way down to Fountain.”

Colorado offers a state tax rebate that can amount to as much as $6,000. Combined with a $7,500 federal tax credit, advocates say that makes Colorado one of the cheapest places in the country to own an electric car.

Toor said a change in Colorado law next year will make the state tax rebate even easier.
