On this week's show:

  • Residents of Byers debated whether or not Riot Fest, a three-day rock music festival, should return to the tiny eastern Colorado town for its second year. Chloe Veltman speaks with John Pettit, organizer of the South Park Music Festival in Fairplay, to hear how the producer of a similar event tackles community concerns. UPDATE: On Friday, Arapahoe County sent a letter to Riot Fest organizers denying the festival's return to Byers. Riot Fest says the festival is not cancelled, and they will announce a new Colorado venue early next week.
  • Denver is gaining notoriety as a hotbed for burlesque dancing and, this weekend, the city hosts the 5th annual Colorado Burlesque Festival. Midnite Martini and Gail Winns, two celebrated, Denver-based burlesquers, talk about why the art form is flourishing in Colorado and how men are starting to step into the spotlight.
  • The human voice is a powerful sales tool. In this episode of VoiceBox, Chloe Veltman and reporter Alyssa Kapnik examine how auctioneering has become a vocal sport. Want to chant like an auctioneer? Try some exercises to loosen your lips.
  • Crooner is a term typically associated with male vocalists. But that hasn’t stopped Denver entertainer Lannie Garrett from taking on the tunes of legendary crooner Frank Sinatra. In anticipation of her show “The Chick Sings Frank,” opening this weekend, Garrett shares a Sinatra jazz standard with the CPR airwaves.

CPR's the Colorado Art Report airs on Fridays at 10.30 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Tune in live or access online at any time.
