Colorado legislators aren't exactly trying to gain control of federal lands in the state, but they are exploring the idea, reports the Grand Junction Sentinel.
Three different measures currently in the session deal with this idea. One bill calls for the state to explore the costs and benefits of wresting state control of federal lands. Another bill allows local governments some limited "concurrent jurisdiction" over federal lands.
And the final bill on the issue heads to the Governor's desk this week. That bill creates a program for local governments to negotiate about public lands with the federal government in the event of conflicts.
