It's been a busy winter for about 1,500 volunteers in Colorado. They track the amount of rain, hail and snowfall in the state. This network of weather watchers got its start after the deadly Spring Creek flood of 1997, which killed five people. The program is called the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, or CoCoRaHS www.cocorahs.org. Thanks to a federal grant, Colorado State University will be able to apply this model – of volunteer weather watchers – across the country.
