A 2019 law calls for more inclusive social studies standards that include the multiple histories, cultures, and social contributions of diverse peoples. The state board of education is in the process of revising the standards to align with that law and others.

A youth survey about sex, drugs and other risky behaviors is finally due for a vote by the Colorado Board of Education. Board members are considering whether parents should have to give permission before students take the anonymous surveys.

The school board has been debating the surveys for months after complaints from some parents that the questions are too explicit. The surveys ask students about having sex, using drugs, considering suicide, bringing guns to school and other unhealthy behaviors.
