Colorado State University ousted Larry Eustachy as the men's basketball coach after an investigation into whether he abused his players and staff. Denver Attorney Scott Lewis, co-founder of The Association for Title IX Administrators, speaks with Colorado Matters about how far colleges and universities are willing to go to win, and the kinds of risks they take.
This was actually CSU's second investigation of Eustachy -- the school interviewed more than a dozen players and staff about the 2013-2014 season. They told stories of the coach punching and breaking dry erase boards or throwing unopened soda cans against walls. There are no indications he was ever physically abusive to his players, but then-athletic director Jack Graham recommended to the school administration that Eustachy be fired. University president Tony Frank decided against it.
