Maurice Butler was arrested Sept. 6 in the investigation of a triple homicide at a transcient encampment.

Denver Police arrested 38-year-old Maurice Butler in the investigation of a triple homicide at a transient encampment last month.

The Aug. 9 shootings near a RTD station at the 700 block of South Broadway left 28-year-old Nicole Boston, 39-year-old Jerome Coronado and 45-year-old Christopher Zamudio dead by gunshot wounds.

Police were unable to discuss a motive, but confirmed that Butler likely knew two of the victims, and that the crime was not a random incident.

Butler was previously arrested by Denver Police on Aug. 13 for an unrelated controlled substances charge and parole violation and has remained in custody since then.

“The Denver Police Department thanks the community for its cooperation and tips to Crime Stoppers, which in addition to the persistence and determination of the investigating officers, helped lead to this arrest,” DPD Division Chief of Investigations Joe Montoya said in a statement.
