The Douglas County school district has paid out $1.3 million after a landmark special education case decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The case involves parents who moved their autistic son to private school after he struggled in his public classroom. They asked the district to reimburse them for the tuition costs.
The 7-year old case went to the U.S. Supreme Court where justices ruled a public school program must be ambitious enough to help students advance.
The payment information is found deep inside the district’s financial transparency website. District officials confirm they made the payment in mid April and the money comes from the district’s general fund.
