My Day With ‘The King’: Remembering Arnold Palmer’s U.S. Open Win At Cherry Hills

Besides the historic comeback, the tournament also marked the intersection of three of the game's all-time greats: Palmer, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus. With the win, the swashbuckling Palmer became "The King" and cemented his place in the game's history.

He also made an indelible impression on Bob Warren. Then a senior at Cherry Creek High School, Warren was inside the ropes to witness history. Fifty years later, he was the chairman of a party at Cherry Hills to commemorate Palmer's win.

Palmer passed away Sunday at the age of 87; Warren will represent Cherry Hills at his funeral next week.
