Opera Colorado opens its first Spanish-language production March 24th. The company is taking a risk by choosing “Florencia en el Amazonas.” Operas penned in Spanish are rare. And the piece-- set on a boat traveling down the Amazon-- was composed just 16 years ago by Mexican native Daniel Catán. Florencia is inspired by novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It’s essentially a prequel to his famous book “Love in the time of Cholera.” Host Ryan Warner speaks with Opera Colorado’s general director Greg Carpenter and stage director Jose Maria Condemi.
