Then-Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks during the opening session of the Western Conservative Summit, Friday, July 1, 2016, in Denver.

At what's billed as the largest gathering of conservatives outside of Washington, D.C., the focus will be on the freedoms conservatives perceive to be under attack. The annual Western Conservative Summit returns to Denver Friday, June 8, and Saturday, June 9. Guests include a Parkland shooting survivor who supports the Second Amendment, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Jeff Hunt, the director of the Centennial Institute.

Hunt talked to Colorado Matters about the Conservative Summit's goals at a time defined by Trump, a growing Libertarian Party and an impending Supreme Court decision with lines drawn between religious freedom and gay rights. Some Colorodans might bristle at the headlining position of Attorney General Sessions, whose anti-drug policies have brought uncertainty to states with legalized marijuana.
