A young boy suffers from what was diagnosed as pertussis.

Weld County is reporting it’s seeing more cases than in the last twenty years.

Officials in Boulder County say they’ve seen more than 60 cases this year, about 3 times more than in a typical year.

Dr. Rachel Herlihy is with the Department of Disease Control at the State Health Department.

She tells Colorado Public Radio’s Mark Bevis that while the numbers for whooping cough, or pertussis, are still at epidemic levels, they’ve dropped from their high point last fall.
