Wildfires Threaten The Water You Drink

Listen Now

Produced by Ryan Warner

Wildfires don’t just threaten homes, they can be really bad for the water we drink and irrigate crops with. Think of the big reservoirs in Colorado. They’re often in mountain forests. If those forests burn, ash, debris, and sediment can come rushing in. This morning, the federal government rolled out a new program to help prevent all that. Colorado is the first place they’re trying it. Joining host Ryan Warner is Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. His agency oversees The US Forest Service, which owns a great deal of land near reservoirs.
