Denver comedian Adam Cayton-Holland is having a remarkable year. He recently released his third album, "Adam Cayton-Holland Performs His Signature Bits," as well as the memoir, "Tragedy + Time." He also filmed his first half-hour special on Comedy Central, and his sitcom "Those Who Can't" returns for a third season this fall.

Cayton-Holland stopped by CPR's OpenAir last month for a Guest DJ session. His music picks included some notable Colorado artists, an outsider anthem from Weezer and a song from the late Tom Petty's band Mudcrutch.

He also spoke with Alisha Sweeney about listening to music while writing, recruiting musicians to guest star on "Those Who Can't" and his ambitions to move into feature films. Read interview highlights below.

On his love for the Denver band Tennis:

"It frustrates me that I don't know them very well and I'm not friends with them. And I feel like that's wrong. So I'm just trying to sycophantically get their attention on Twitter, anywhere really. It's what I do, I just hound people on social media into being friends with me."

On how 'Those Who Can't' has led to more opportunities:

"It's this unique window where the doors of Hollywood are somewhat open to us. So I'm trying to get in there with other projects, and pitch and sell. This is a dream come true. I've always wanted to make TV. I've always wanted to make movies."
