Catching up with Tennis

Morning show host Alisha Sweeney joined Tennis at the legendary Boulder Chataqua Auditorium in Boulder for a visit before their headlining show with Paper Bird. The band talk about plans for the summer which include going back to their roots with some time on their sailboat, being in the presence of Steve Albini and playing David Lynch's private club in Paris.

By now you may know the story of local band Tennis. The group is compromised of husband and wife Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore. They started off as a duo, writing songs about a sailing trip the two embarked on and have now grown into a quartet. In just the two years of the band's career, they added drummer James Barone (he used to play drums for Dressy Bessy at one point) and have a new keyboardist/guitarist Patrick Meese (whom we love from The Centennial and Fairchildren). When they put their first song online, the duo didn't expect to rise to popularity so quickly and they talk candidly about this throughout their first interview with us. Going from never have performed as Tennis in front of an audience to selling out venues across the country and playing festivals around the world, the band's rise to fame was viral. The Denver popstars released their sopohomore album Young and Old on Valentine's Day via Fat Possum Records, a fitting day for this wedded duo.

Listen as we catch up with the band on-site at Chataqua Auditorium an hour before they play the scenic Boulder stage.
