Kishi Bashi stops by OpenAir

Joyful Noise recording artist Kishi Bashi recently visited the Colorado Public Radio studio here at OpenAir much to the delight of host Mike Flanagan and our listeners!

K. Ishibashi (Kishi Bashi is his stage name, get it?) is a remarkable talent. Having picked up the violin and learning the Suzuki method at age 6, he is a skilled violinist. Plug that traditional instrument into a loop machine, and a few other high tech gadgets, and the result is a soaring, joyous sound that defies genres. He's a member of Of Montreal, has toured with Regina Spektor and Sondre Lerche, and appears to be solidifying the next step of emerging as a solo artist. His spring release, "151a" (roughly translated to live for today, but much deeper) was financed through a Kickstarter campaign, and his live performance is a remarkable testament to what it's like to be a 21st century one man band. Though touring has kept him from his wife and 6-year-old daughter, who appears on his album cover, there's only a shortlist of drawbacks. You don't want to miss his studio session. Come fly with Kishi Bashi!
