Paper Bird and Ian Cooke return to OpenAir

When trombonist Tyler Archuletta amicably left Paper Bird earlier this year, the local band decided to press on without filling the vacancy. And when time came to consider a stand-in for the upcoming performance of "Carry On", it was Tyler who suggested the band ask local musican Ian Cooke. Given Cooke's proficiency on the cello and his previous collaborations with the band, the idea made perfect sense.

Paper Bird recently returned to the OpenAir Studio--along with special guest Ian Cooke--to play songs from "Carry On", an original album that serves as the soundtrack to a stage production by Ballet Nouveau Colorado. The two groups will collaborate for another live performance at Ellie Caulkins Opera House on Friday, September 7.

During the exclusive session, Corey Jones chats with the members of Paper Bird about the multimedia project's origins, the upcoming performance, as well as the group's future plans. Friday's event will also coincide with the release of "Carry On RMXD", a record featuring Paper Bird songs reimagined by local musicians and DJs. Stay tuned to OpenAir to hear some of these remixed songs, and listen to Paper Bird's latest performance and interview below.
