Alexandre Desplat won Best Original Score for the music of "The Grand Budapest Hotel"

The 87th Academy Awards took place on Sunday. Big music winners of the night included John Legend and Common, who won Best Original Song for "Glory" written for the film "Selma," and Alexandre Desplat for Best Original Score in "The Grand Budapest Hotel."

Paul Dano and John Cusack star in trailer for Brian Wilson biopic

The first trailer for "Love & Mercy," a forthcoming biopic on the life of Beach Boys singer-songwriter Brian Wilson, was released this week. The film stars Paul Dano and John Cusack as young and present-day Wilson, respectively.

Friday to become global release day for new records

This week the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) announced that the music industry will begin releasing new music on Fridays. The current release day for the U.S. is Tuesday, while in Australia and Germany albums are released the prior Friday.

By establishing a worldwide day, the IFPI hopes to cut back on music piracy. The change is scheduled to go into effect this summer. [via Consequence of Sound]
