Whitney, ‘No Matter Where We Go’

Indie band Whitney formed in Chicago during the historically cold winter of 2014, right around the time guitarist Max Kakacek's band Smith Westerns broke up.

Those factors could have made for some seriously bleak music, but Kakacek and drummer Julien Ehrlich -- formerly of Unknown Mortal Orchestra -- have made one of the first great summer records of 2016 with their debut "Light Upon The Lake."

"No Matter Where We Go" is a bouncy, guitar-driven single that funnels '70s pop rock through modern indie sensibilities. And like most of the album, it sounds genuinely happy.

Whitney will perform at this year's Underground Music Showcase in Denver.
