Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction is home to the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II softball. That puts the Mavericks in the midst of a balancing act. On one side, there's the thrill of 30 consecutive victories. On the other: The pressure of a looming postseason, head coach Ben Garcia and outfielder Brooke Hodgson tell Colorado Matters.

Garcia also talks about playing in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, which isn't regarded as a particularly strong conference, then having to ramp back up for the NCAAs. Hodgson reflects on leading in a number of categories, including hits, and last weekend she set the RMAC's record for career runs batted in.
