In the last month Dana Crawford celebrated her 87th birthday and received the Governor's Citizenship Medal.

Long-time Denver developer and preservationist Dana Crawford rang in her 87th birthday in style last month when she learned she would be a recipient the Governor's Citizenship Medal. It was a clear sign that Crawford wasn't slowing down yet. Crawford talked to Colorado Matters about her past accomplishments and future endeavors.

One of Denver's most iconic blocks, Larimer Square, was saved from the wrecking ball more than 50 years ago because of Crawford. Now it's future is uncertain once again. Crawford and Annie Levinsky, executive director of Historic Denver, wrote an opinion piece for the Denver Post on June 17 in defense of Larimer Square.

The 87-year-old was also instrumental in developing other historic properties for the city, including Oxford Hotel, Union Station and Flour Mill Lofts. For her future projects, Crawford is turning to Idaho Springs, Pueblo and Trinidad.
