Aspen Sportswear Designer Bounces Back

Parkas are probably the last thing you’re thinking of in this heat but manufacturers of ski clothing can apparently thank La Nina are chalking up big sales this season. Cold temperatures and lots of snow this past winter meant sales were up 7 percent. Here in Colorado, apparel maker Sport Obermeyer is bouncing back after a rough few years. So is its 91-year-old founder and CEO, Klaus Obermeyer. The Aspen Business Journal reports he’s recovering from a broken femur -- the first serious ski injury he’s ever had. We spoke with Obermeyer back in 2007 as his company marked its 60th anniversary. He told Ryan Warner about crafting his first article of clothing, a parka, from something he had around the house.
