Demonstrators make their way around downtown Philadelphia Monday, July 25, 2016 on the first day of the Democratic National Convention.

Leaked emails that show Democratic National Committee officials plotted against Sen. Bernie Sanders have DNC delegates "extremely upset," one Colorado delegate said Monday.

Rep. Joe Salazar, D-Thornton, told Colorado Matters "anything is possible" at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, which starts Monday.

"My reaction was disappointment," Salazar said of the emails, which WikiLeaks published late last week. "It wasn't a shock, because Bernie Sanders' supporters have been saying it for months."

Salazar, a pledged delegate to Sanders, said he will cast his ballot for the Vermont senator during a roll call vote scheduled for Tuesday night. Hillary Clinton is expected to receive the party's official nomination then.

A Colorado Clinton delegate, former state Sen. Polly Baca, echoed Salazar's "disappointed" comment. "There's got to be neutrality," she told Colorado Matters.

Salazar said DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who will resign after the convention, should step down now for the sake of the party.

"Let's not wait until Friday," he said. "Let's have it happen now so there's an olive branch to Bernie Sanders' supporters that the DNC is listening."

Salazar said he will vote for Clinton in November if she is the Democratic nominee -- which is all but certain. But he said Clinton should not take the support of Sanders voters for granted.

"These folks are the ones that are going to carry the day for her," he said. "And she better do it quite quickly."
