Congressman Doug Lamborn represents Colorado's Fifth District, which includes a large Air Force presence.

Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines ... space corps? U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn wants there to be a new military service branch for space troops. The Colorado Springs Republican tells Colorado Matters the new service could focus efforts and lead to fewer problems in financing and managing operations connected to space, like satellite construction. The idea has drawn criticism because if implemented, it could ultimately hurt his district by moving jobs and money to another part of the country.

Lamborn said, based on his understanding of the bill, and conversations with other members of subcommittees of the House Armed Services Committee, that would not be the case.
