Colorado lawmakers have asked the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to submit a plan for how the agency will pay for a vastly over-budget and long delayed medical center in suburban Denver "as soon as possible."

The Denver Post reports that U.S. Sens. Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner, as well as Rep. Mike Coffman sent a letter Tuesday to VA Secretary Robert McDonald asking for the agency to pay for the rest of the hospital in Aurora.
The Veterans Affairs Department is struggling to persuade Congress to approve up to $830 million to finish it.
The project is expected to cost $1.73 billion. Completion isn't expected until 2017.
Only a short-term deal is keeping the money flowing. Unless a new agreement is reached by about June 12, construction could come to a halt.
