Terry Maketa went from a rising Republican star to a criminal defendant after allegations of abuse of power. This week, a jury acquitted him on three counts and hung on four others. Prosecutors say they'll decide within a few days whether to retry him, Colorado Springs Gazette reporter Lance Benzel told Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner.

Maketa's political star began to fade with allegations of affairs with co-workers and favoritism in the sheriff's department. Last year, he was indicted on multiple charges including extortion and official misconduct.
