The gold rush attracted lots of people to Colorado -- most of them looking for fortune. Clara Brown came looking for her daughter. Brown was a newly freed slave and had lost track of her daughter, who was sold to another master. Clara Brown went on to become a highly respected land owner and philanthropist, but the search for her children consumed her.
