Weather forecasts haven’t been very helpful for pilots who are trying to avoid dangerous icing conditions. They just haven’t been able to predict how bad icing will be or pinpoint its location precisely enough to be useful. Until now. Software developed in Boulder at the National Center for Atmospheric Research gives pilots the critical information they need. NCAR’s Marcia Politovich tells Pat Mack that the new tool will help smaller planes the most.
