A renewable energy project, touted by then-Gov. Bill Ritter when it opened, has bitten the dust. The San Juan Bioenergy plant in southwestern Colorado was supposed to bring jobs to the small town of Dove Creek. The idea was for nearby farmers to grow sunflowers, which would be turned into biodiesel. But that failed from the get-go and the facility started making sunflower oil instead. The plant closed last fall and now it's for sale. Ryan Warner speaks with Joe Hanel, who's covering the story for The Durango Herald.
