In Idaho Springs, there is a 9-foot statue of a man who never lived. It's of a once wildly popular cartoon character named Steve Canyon. He was an airman and adventurer. The strip began a little after World War 2 and ran through 1988.

Matt Masich writes about the statue (which has very little to do with Idaho Springs history) in the current issue of Colorado Life magazine. He told Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner how it connects to Memorial Day.
