Police shootings in the last few years left an impression on Denver comic book writer R. Alan Brooks. He says he wanted to write about the issue, but from an unexpected perspective -- he put a science fiction lens on it.

Brooks collaborated with Denver illustrator Dion Harris and Longmont designer Matt Strackbein for a new sci-fi graphic novel series called "The Burning Metronome." It will have six issues and the creators describe it as a "murder mystery graphic novel with supernatural undertones." The first issue focuses on police shootings and race relations. In the spring, they plan to release a book with all six issues.

Brooks spoke with Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner.
