A federal audit is raising questions about how the County Sheriffs of Colorado organization spent a $1.5 million grant. The group received the money for a system to track offenders in custody and notify victims when a convict is moved to prison, released on parole or discharged. 

The audit by the Inspector General questions how almost half of the grant, about $700,000 was spent. That includes expenditures that do not comply with grant rules, those that are not adequately documented and those that are unnecessary or unreasonable. Officials from the County Sheriffs of Colorado did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
