The Denver Classroom Teachers Association and the district have reached a new one-year contract.
Teachers and other employees including social workers, counselors and nurses will get a 2.1 percent raise. That could grow by another 1.1 percent if voters pass the district’s proposed property tax hike in November.
“After years of flat state funding, we are continuously challenged to pay our teachers as much as they deserve for their incredible work,” Acting Denver Public Schools Superintendent Susana Cordova said in a statement.
The district says the raise was possible because it cut more than 150 positions from the central office.
A contentious issue in negotiations involved a district plan that pays teachers extra for working in high-needs schools.
