4th Street is the main thoroughfare in Hugo, Colo. U.S. Route 287 runs along the road.

There’s a new beat at NPR, covering the “urban-rural divide.” The term has gained much attention since the election with the growing clout of rural voters, including those here in Colorado.

Donald Trump’s overwhelming support in rural areas has a lot of people paying more attention to people in those communities, including NPR, where reporter Kirk Siegler has stepped into the new beat. He’ll be reporting from Colorado and Utah this week. Before joining NPR, Siegler reported for KUNC FM in Greeley, Colorado.

He spoke to Colorado Matters host Nathan Heffel.
