A new website aims to give people more information about oil and gas wells in their neighborhoods. So far more than twenty energy companies have agreed to post data online at www.fracfocus.org. That includes information about hydraulic fracturing - a drilling practice that involves pumping fluid deep into the ground to help release natural gas. Industry officials say it’s safe, but some Colorado residents think the practice leaks harmful chemicals into the water supply.
The website is run by a group that represents state oil and gas regulators around the country and the Groundwater Protection Council.
Colorado Public Radio's Anna Panoka spoke with Dave Neslin, Director of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, about the effort.
