Mitski, ‘Your Best American Girl’

July 25, 2016

The music of Mitski Miyawaki can be startling in its depiction of loneliness, depression and self-destruction. The New York City singer-songwriter's lyrics often portray bleak romantic relationships and world-weariness.

On her latest album, "Puberty 2," Mitski finds catharsis by verging into harder and faster rock territory.

The single "Your Best American Girl" builds from soft acoustic guitar strums to a climactic chorus while Mitski sings forlornly, seemingly to a potential lover.
