The members of Slothrust met while they were students in the jazz program at Sarah Lawrence College. That may come as a surprise upon first listen to their music: It seems to have more in common with J Mascis than John Coltrane.
But the songs on the Brooklyn trio's third album, "Everyone Else," feature complex rhythms and twisting melodies that imply rock 'n' roll is not their only love.
They manage to blend their influences seamlessly on the riff-driven "Rotten Pumpkin," which you can download via the link above.
Slothrust performs March 15 at Larimer Lounge.
