Just three months after publishing his second novel, John Darnielle has released his 16th album as The Mountain Goats. "Goths" is a tribute to the so-called "gothic rock" bands Darnielle grew up loving: The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees and other artists he references in his lyrics.
Songs like "Rain In Soho" are a departure from the typical Mountain Goats sound of rapidly strummed acoustic guitar chords. The album opener is an unsettling piano-driven song featuring a ghostly choir.
