Rainer Maria released five albums of gritty emo before splitting in 2006. Since then members have released solo albums, moved to the Middle East and studied Tibetan Buddhism. But the trio started playing occasional reunion shows in 2014. Those gigs eventually led the group back to the studio to record the new album "S/T," out Aug. 18.
With drummer Bill Kuehn taking over production for the first time, Rainer Maria sounds as large as ever on the single "Suicides And Lazy Eyes." Kuehn's pounding toms combined with Kaia Fischer's bulky guitar riffs and Caithlin De Marrais' vocals create a massive rock sound for the Madison, Wis., natives.
