Snapshots From SXSW 2018: Nathaniel Rateliff, Superorganism, Lucy Dacus, Shopping And More
CPR's OpenAir hosts Jessi Whitten and Scott Carney spent last week in Austin, Texas, for the South By Southwest music festival. They attended dozens of concerts throughout the five-day event.
Their favorite shows included those from established artists Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Andrew W.K. and ESG, along with new discoveries like Australian singer-songwriter Stella Donnelly, saxophone-driven punk rockers French Vanilla and Japanese pop-rock quartet CHAI.
They also captured some unique sights from the festival, including memorable band outfits, music-themed cocktails and a very cool cassette vending machine.

My highlight of #sxsw day 1 was the gift of stumbling into a @weddingpresent show to revel in that classic band while then getting to discover @Numb_er_la who were playing in the adjacent room simultaneously. pic.twitter.com/S3wgV0YpLU— Jessi (@OpenAirJessi) March 14, 2018
Gearing up for @lucydacus at the NPR Showcase tonight with a cocktail inspired by her new album Historian! Both are incredible :) #sxsw pic.twitter.com/wxiQTz40Yu— Scott Carney (@OpenAirScott) March 14, 2018

Cheers to @thesidewindertx for having one of the coolest vending machines I've ever seen. Which one would you pick? pic.twitter.com/pqdsykGoJ2— Scott Carney (@OpenAirScott) March 17, 2018
Yes, that is Ron Gallo playing a guitar with a trumpet. Catch him at Lost Lake Lounge April 12th! You won't regret it. #sxsw pic.twitter.com/Uq5znKvPYE— Scott Carney (@OpenAirScott) March 17, 2018
