Johnny Marr's influence on modern rock is immeasurable. His signature sound as guitarist and co-songwriter of The Smiths has inspired countless imitators within pop and rock music. Outside of that band, Marr still has one of the most impressive musical resumes of the past 30 years: He spent time in The Pretenders, Modest Mouse and Electronic and performed on albums by Talking Heads, Oasis and more.

Marr released his third solo album, "Call the Comet," last year. Before his show at the Gothic Theatre tonight, Marr spoke over the phone with morning host Jeremy Petersen. They discussed the escapism that informs "Call the Comet," his relationship with his creative past, running at 5,280 feet and more.
