Marcia Douglas wrote "The Marvelous Occasions of the Dread: A Novel in Bass Riddim" in a reggae aesthetic, borrowing from the music and culture.

Zee Jaipur Literature Festival in Boulder this weekend will be author Marcia Douglas, who's latest book is "The Marvellous Equations Of The Dread: A Novel in Bass Riddim." The CU Boulder professor of creative writing and Carribean literature blends Jamaica's history of violence alongside its creative humanity.

"The Marvellous Equations" makes use of a range of voices. There are a series of narratives, sections inspired by music and what Douglas calls the "angel's ledger book." Douglas structured the novel around a reggae aesthetic, drawing from the music itself and the culture surrounding it.

The Zee Jaipur Literature Festival runs Friday through Sunday, Sept. 23. Register to attend for free here.
