For a decade, the tiny city of Las Animas in southeastern Colorado has relied on a prison for good jobs. Now, The Fort Lyon Correctional Facility is on the state chopping block. The state needs to save millions of dollars, but residents say the loss of one of area’s largest employers could devastate their close-knit community.
