After the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Florida passed what’s called an extreme risk protection order law (ERPO), also known as a red flag gun law. It allows a judge to keep firearms out of the hands of people who may be a risk to themselves or others.

A similar bill is being introduced Monday in Colorado by state Rep. Alec Garnett, a Denver Democrat. He tells Colorado Matters the measure has bipartisan support, and is backed by a coalition of sheriffs, chiefs of police and district attorneys.
