Ever since the release of his debut album "Fear Fun" in 2012, Father John Misty (singer-songwriter and ex-Fleet Foxes member Josh Tillman) has been one of the OpenAir staff's favorite modern musicians. We talked with Tillman back in 2012 when he played in music director Jessi Whitten's apartment (watch video from that session).

But needless to say, we were thrilled to have him come to our studio this time around. He performed some acoustic versions of songs from his recent sophomore album, "I Love You, Honeybear," before a sold out concert at The Ogden Theatre.

Alisha Sweeney spoke with Tillman about the confessional love themes behind the new album, transitioning from the "nonsense" lyrics of his first record, avoiding the term "persona" and his rapport (or lack thereof) with David Letterman.

Songs performed:

  • "I Love You, Honeybear"
  • "Nothing Good Ever Happens at the Goddamn Thirsty Crow"
  • "Chateau Lobby #4 (in C for Two Virgins)"
  • "Bored in the U.S.A."
