Colorado Public Radio Expands Broadcast Reach of CPR Classical on the Front Range

CENTENNIAL, Colo., April 25, 2018Colorado Public Radio (CPR) today announced it has increased the service area of its classical music station (CPR Classical) along the Front Range, broadening the reach of 88.1 FM to extend further into northern Colorado. The change is part of efforts to increase accessibility and reliability of the organization’s broadcast transmissions, while building on CPR’s vision to be a statewide music resource.

The service area expansion comes as a result of CPR relocating two radio antennas from towers on Lookout Mountain and Mount Morrison to a single permanent location on Lookout Mountain. The new location provides a larger coverage area with less terrain blockage, while also allowing CPR to quadruple the signal strength of 88.1 FM, enabling it to reach northern Colorado for the first time since 2008.

“When we moved CPR Classical from 90.1 FM to 88.1. FM in 2008, we knew we needed to find a way to bring our classical music service to areas of northern Colorado that were lost in the transition,” said Senior Vice President of Programming Sean Nethery. “This move does just that, offering more listeners the opportunity to explore the world of classical music, while also supporting community enrichment and cultural enlightenment throughout the region.”

The relocated radio antennas also improved CPR News’ broadcast reach, which now extends further across all of metro Denver and northern Colorado.
