
The penny will soon be no more. Well, new pennies anyway. The Treasury Department has placed its last order for blank pennies and it plans to stop minting them as soon as that supply runs out. The debate about whether to get rid of pennies has been going on for years and it has bipartisan support. It costs approximately 3.7 cents to make each penny.
