Piazzolla times two: Pro Musica Colorado Chamber Orchestra, Littleton Symphony present ‘Four Seasons of Buenos Aires’

Photo: Astor Piazzolla horizontal duotoneFans of nuevo tango music, a classical/jazz hybrid, have a chance to see two different metro area ensembles perform one of the masterpieces of the genre this weekend.

Both the Littleton Symphony and Pro Musica Colorado Chamber Orchestra are presenting Astor Piazzolla’s piece “Four Seasons of Buenos Aires” in concert.

Pro Musica presents their concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church (1600 Grant St., Denver) and at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at First United Methodist Church (1421 Spruce St., Boulder).

The Littleton Symphony’s performance is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Littleton United Methodist Church (5894 South Datura St., Littleton).

Pro Musica’s concert will also including Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” the set of violin concertos that inspired Piazzolla. Lina Bahn is the featured violinist.

Littleton Symphony’s program is titled “The Incredible Story of Hary Janos,” and includes the “Hary Janos Suite” by Zoltan Kodaly as well as Richard Strauss’s “Til Eulenspiegel.” Violinist Claude Sim is the soloist.
