The latest list from the US Green Building Council puts the state at No. 2 for the amount of LEED-certified construction per capita. The certification goes to buildings meeting standards of water and energy efficiency, and Illinois tops the list.

Sharon Alton, with the Council’s Colorado office, says new work at Denver’s Union Station helped raise Colorado from 8th in the previous ranking, and other projects could get the state to No. 1.

"Really anywhere in this new Union Station neighborhood that you look, you’re probably looking at a LEED certified building," Alton said.
